To be allowed out of the hospital and back home I had to be accompanied by a carer 24 hours a day. They had to be sensible and alert, they were trained and tested by the hospital, previously most patients had 1 or 2 carers well I had 6. All were trained to change batteries and the controller quicker than the Maclaren F1 team could change tyres .
You definitely need more than 1 carer so as not to limit the number of activities you can do, and lets face it, it’s bad enough at Christmas and on holidays being stuck with the same person. They should also have different interests and people you can get on with because you can not drive you are dependent on them. Do not forget to get the bus pass.
So armed with a small packet of biscuits and a bottle of water (essential medications) I went out into the brave new world where only seven others had gone before,
Beam me up Scotty!
